Satsuma-jiru Miso Soup

This is a traditional nutritious miso soup which was eaten by clansmen of the Satsuma Domain in Kagoshima in the Edo period to raise their morale.
Ingredients (4 servings)
Sliced pork belly | 2 pieces |
---|---|
Sweet potato | 1/2 |
Daikon radish | 1/4 |
Carrot | 1/2 |
Taros | 2 |
Gobo (Burdock) | 1/4 |
Konjac (Devil’s tongue) | 1/4 cake |
Dashi stock | 800 cc |
Miso | 3-1/2 tablespoons |
Directions
- Cut the sliced pork belly, sweet potato, daikon, carrot, taros and gobo into proper sizes. Boil the konjac and tear into pieces with a spoon.
- Bring the dashi stock to a boil and add the ingredients. After the ingredients are cooked, dissolve the miso and boil for a moment.
- Serve the miso soup in bowls.
★ A Note
You can use a larger amount of the ingredients and cut them into larger pieces to prepare this miso soup as a main dish.
